Yesterday we had an internal meeting regarding our game's release order.

_____________

Pinball Breaker DX - and enhanced rebuild of the original game - featuring a new style, new characters and 2 modes (original game rules + the deluxe mode)

Space Girls Can't Swim - Parody of visual novels, if you enjoyed the writing and humor of the Greedy Goblins comic it'll be up your alley.

Project Bit Beak - An action platformer featuring a Miami graffiti inspired art style. Length is comparable to 2 worlds in your standard Nintendo platformers.

______________

Everything has a lot done for it (at minimum 50%) but we needed to structure wrap up around coding one game while art is being generated for another. Optimizing work flow to get projects out. Even if things get delayed past out internal deadlines, these projects are all planned to be released by June.

Anything past this point is

The roster 1/2 old and 1/2 new, with the new being from previous CubePunks games and characters from upcoming projects. If things go according to plan, the roster will be expanded post launch.

Happy Newyears! To celebrate it, another seasonal postcard featuring Sammy was drawn

This week I've been a knee deep with 3D modeling; one half being making characters models and animations for the upcoming DX version of Pinball Breaker. The other just buying a 3D printer and learning what to do. iu_1139560_5504493.webp

work in progress

One of the many printing goals is to modify the PinballBreaker DX game models into a series of 3in figurines. I'll figure out later how to release them after i make them.

KMB here again talking about our project updates - we try to be weekly but Christmas = taking time off.

GAMES:

iu_1136813_5504493.png

PINBAL BREAKER DX: Sequel to our 2nd biggest game with better optimization, more gameplay features, new characters - or in short, the Deluxe version. Next blog post will elaborate on details such as the art style for the character models.

Space Girls Can't Swim - assets almost finalized, just need to schedule a team meeting to sign off on everything before coding. I made a cool 3D backdrop.

Project Bit Beak - Resuming dev during January; needed a break to prevent getting sloppy or burnout.

Change of Physical Location

Want to make sure it's clear we're not moving from one account/site to another lol.

We recently moved from one place to another and still setting up the home office. Its an upgrade that will help make 2024 output productive; but it's also eaten a lot of our December :l

Going to hold off on details regarding project updates for now - progress is all foundation and code related so any screenshots shown as of now would just be of the Godot editor.

CUBE PUNKS RECAP

iu_1123803_5504493.webp

Starting this month, I'm gonna try to keep it as a thing to drop monthly themed postcard illustrations of Sammy from Pinball Breaker. This Christmas one is here to kick off the series.

Space Girls Can't Swim

iu_1123805_5504493.png

Game is aiming to release in the middle of this month. Majority of the visual novel's assets are done. Main bit in progress are the pixel art's animations, which are like 95% done. But as a wise man once said:

PROJECT Bit Beak

iu_1123804_5504493.png

A common for some of our past games has been the variety of obstacles is too small, so we're trying to make sure there's a healthy number of objects to solve that issue. About half of the total number of enemies added to the game currently functional - after that point levels can start being designed.

Also, assets have been worked on periodically - mostly character illustrations. The soundtrack will be worked on after Space Girl's Cant Swim gets releases as a productive break from programming.

Heyo, KageKMB here. Another week of hard work, exciting stuff.

GAMES:

iu_1118403_5504493.webp

Project Bit Beak

At the start of this year I was working on a project called Break Beak. The idea was to get a series of toys made that were bundled with a DS-era inspired platformer. People liked the concept - but finding a business partner wasn’t working out.

We want to get the idea out there in some way, so we’re building a pixel art version, dubbed Project Bit Beak. The Break Beak pitch had an alpha build, and some work could be reused for Bit Beak - but a lot got overhauled for optimization (details I’ll elaborate on next week).

Release Model for Bit Beak is to drop a free browser version, and a paid download version. Download version with have exclusive additional content, as well as free updated funded by sales (the more people who want more, the more we'll add. the money gives us a budget and shows demand).

Space Girls Can’t Swim

The name of the visual novel we’ve been working on. Assets including the script are mostly finished, with tweaks being made before building it out in the game engine. The game is being built in Godot (like all our titles), using the Dialogic addon as well as a good chunk of custom tools.

iu_1118402_5504493.png

The Future of Greedy Goblins

We’re interested in expanding the browser game it into a full title. Problem is, we don’t quite know the best way to go about getting it made (funding, marketing, building a dev team, etc).

We have a forum thread asking about this - if you have any suggestions, resources you can recommend or even want to reach out for collaboration; let us know.

COMICS:

iu_1118405_5504493.png

We’ve been hard at work trying to set CubePunks up in 2024 to be predominantly focused on comics and games. We have a plan for multiple one-shot and a limited series are planned out. Some are releasing as stand alone books, but we have tie-ins with the games as well (such as the platformer game).

_______________________________

Had to show some restraint this update so we don't say too much too soon - but going into 2024 CubePunks is going to be drop some real bangers.

Thank you so much to everyone who voted for Greedy Goblins! It means a lot people enjoyed out hard work!!

Game-Dev updates

iu_1110471_5504493.gif

Visual Novel: While it’s primarily narrative, there are simple gameplay segments that have been entirely programmed. Most of the assets are completed, including composing the soundtrack, the script is being finalized before it’s all assembled. Expect it before the end of the year.

Platformer: Significantly larger of a title than Greedy Goblins, time is being spent laying out a foundation so a lot can built upon it. It serves as a proof of concept for a larger title; and if it gets expanded into a larger title, ideally we’d just build on-top of the browser-game than square one. Expect this Q1 2024.

Unfortunately I have a pinched nerve that can make desk work painful. Trying to fix it but if work stalls and I miss projected deadlines, blame my rhomboids.

Comics

iu_1110472_5504493.png

More than just the Greedy Goblins tie-in book are being worked on. Progress has been made on the next one, but for now we don’t want to share all the details.

Aiming for blog updates to be a weekly thing, fingers crosses.
